The Lampasas High School girls' track team followed up its win at the Bangs Meet to open the season with another team gold, winning the Gatesville Relays on Friday.

The Lady Badgers racked up 122 total points, 17 more than secondplace Waco Connally and almost doubling Gatesville's third-place total of 61.

The LHS boys, who also won gold at the Bangs Meet, finished third at Gatesville, three points behind second-place Waco Robinson. Waco La Vega won the meet with 122 points, followed by Robinson's 102 and LHS' 99.

The Lady Badgers used a team approach, taking the crown despite just one individual gold.

Jennifer Howard captured that gold, winning the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, two inches.

Alma Sandoval, Courtney Carpenter and the 1600 relay team nabbed silver medals. Sandoval threw the discus 103 feet, seven inches, Carpenter ran the 100 hurdles in 16.60, and the team of Kayla Lowery, Patricia Roberts, Carpenter and Ashley Summers ran the mile relay in 4:34.90.

On the boys' side, Clay Tyner brought home his second gold in as many weeks, winning the high jump with an up-and-over of 6 feet.

Aaron Reyna earned a silver medal in the long jump at 20 feet, 31/2 inches, and the 800 relay team of Cory Summers, Reyna, Tyler Phelan and Angelo Hardy finished second at 1:33.12.

The junior varsity girls finished fourth, and the JV boys fifth.

The boys and girls varsity and JV track teams are scheduled to compete at Fredericksburg on Saturday.
