POWERLIFTING

Lampasas High School junior powerlifter Stephanie Smith qualified for the regional tournament on Saturday by winning her fourth gold medal of the season at the Del Valle Meet.

Smith, who qualified for state last year, has won each of the four meets she has competed in this year. Kelsey Bernado finished third at Del Valle.

RUNNING

The Liberty Hill Run at the Ranch Fun Run is scheduled for April 6.

The event, which features a 5K run and a 1-mile walk, will be held at the Stonewall Ranch at 315 Stonewall Blvd. in Liberty Hill. The race costs $15 per runner for the 5K if runners register on-line at www.runtex.com before April 2. The cost is $20 per runner after April 2. The onemile walk is $10.

Registration fee includes a Tshirt, a race bib and refreshments after the race (T-shirt not guaranteed for race-day entrants).

SEMI-PRO FOOTBALL

Hutto's Texas Bulldogs football team has scheduled open tryouts on March 15 at the old Hippo Stadium off Highway 79.

The Bulldogs are members of the World Football League, which has semiprofessional teams across the country. Participants must be at least 18 years old. Registration is scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. and tryouts at 9 a.m. There is a $35 nonrefundable tryout fee due before or at registration.
