LHS softball places 2nd at Ennis tourney

Marisa Bogart
Behind the scorching-hot bat of freshman Marisa Bogart, the Lampasas High School softball team went 3-1 at the Ennis Invitational Tournament, finishing second to Georgetown.

The Lady Badgers (6-4) beat Kaufman, 11-8, Pilot Point, 10-0, and Mabank, 10-0, on Friday before falling to Georgetown, 12-2, in the championship game on Saturday.

Thursday's games were rained out.

In the win over Kaufman, a game which the Lady Badgers trailed 8-0, freshman Taylor Holloman picked up the victory. Bogart, who recorded 10 extra base hits on the weekend, doubled three times and plated three runs.

Senior Vonzella Underwood doubled and drove in two runs, and Holloman and Shelby Wilson each recorded doubles.

In the win over Pilot Point, senior Kirby Crow recorded her first shutout of the year. Bogart doubled twice, tripled and drove in two runs.

Senior Taryn Brown hit an inside the-park home run and recorded two RBIs, and Underwood doubled and plated two.

In the win over Mabank, Holloman picked up the win. Bogart recorded three more doubles and drove in two runs.

Kirby Crow
Freshman Jennifer Herron tripled and recorded three RBIs.

In the loss to Georgetown, starter Crow was victimized by shaky defense, as the Lady Badgers allowed eight unearned runs.

Bogart recorded her ninth double of the tournament in the game.

The Lady Badgers are scheduled to play host to Waco Midway in their home-opener tonight. The junior varsity is scheduled to play at 5 p.m., and the varsity will follow at 7 p.m.
