Letters Hostess House invitation Did you get married in the Hostess House? Or did you have your wedding reception at the Hostess House? Then you especially are invited to attend the dedication of the Historical Marker of the Hostess House on March 2 at 3 p.m. A special invitation also is extended to each of the people who helped with the restoration in any way: donations of time or money, buying an afghan or a sausage wrap or whatever. We, the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, do appreciate and thank you. Oran Milo Roberts Chapter was organized with the express purpose of saving the Hostess House in 1991, and it could not have been done without the support and help of so many in the community. Many people in the community scoffed at the idea of spending any money or time on the old relic, but the believers persisted, and the restored building became a reality. This dedication ceremony means so much to each of those Daughters who spent hours and finances getting that project done. They appreciate and thank each one who helped in any way to make their dream come true.
The building is in constant demand for all kinds of festive occasions, and one has to get there early for lunch Tuesdays through Fridays to be sure of getting a table. Act of kindness We are writing this letter a little belated, but we wanted to say there are two exceptional people who live in your town. Our family was on our way back to Hico from the San Antonio Stock Show on Feb. 14 and had a blowout on the trailer we were pulling just north of Lampasas. It wasn't a regular blowout; part of the tire was stuck between the wheel and the frame of the trailer, and we were not able to get it out. We were trying to decide what to do when this very nice couple in a pickup turned around and came back to help us, delaying their plans with friends. They were absolutely wonderful, using their own rope and pulling the tire out with their truck so we could get back on the road home. I hope that couple reads this letter and knows how much we appreciate them and their act of kindness, because as they drove away we both were wishing we had gotten their names. We would just like to say "thank you" and let you know that if everyone in Lampasas is as nice as the couple that helped us, then it must be a great place to live. Lisa and Doug McClammy Hico |
