LHS softball wins 3 of 4 at Gatesville
Saturday's action was canceled because of rain, so final tournament standings were not tabulated. The Lady Badgers (3-2) beat Troy, 2-1, Killeen Ellison, 3-2, and Hillsboro, 7-0, before falling to West, 4-2. "I thought we swung the bat really well and got some great pitching," LHS head coach Chris Gaffney said. "We've got to do a little better job of catching and throwing (an error was the difference in the loss to West), but the more games we play, the more the underclassmen are going to learn. The effort was certainly there. never have to worry about these girls not playing hard because they don't know how to not play hard." Senior Kirby Crow went 2-1 on the mound, evening her record at 2-2. She tossed her first shutout against Hillsboro. Freshman Taylor Holloman picked up a win in her first start, notching the victory against Ellison. In the win against Troy, freshman Jennifer Herron hit a home run, and senior Vonzella Underwood drove in the other run.
The Lady Badger bats came alive against Hillsboro. Freshman Marisa Bogart went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs. Crow helped her own cause, driving in two runs. Senior Taryn Brown drove in a run, and freshman Madison Morris tripled. In the loss to West, Bogart went 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI, Herron doubled, and freshman Shelly Holcomb plated a run. The Lady Badgers are scheduled to play a road game against Gatesville at 6 p.m. today. They are scheduled to participate in the Ennis Varsity Tournament from Thursday through Saturday. |
