Garcia attends justice of peace seminar

Judge Andrew Garcia Jr. was certified at the recent 20-hour Justice of the Peace Seminar Jan. 29-Feb. 1 in Austin.

The seminar was sponsored by the Texas Justice Court Training Center, a division of Texas State University, San Marcos, with offices in Austin.

The seminar is one of five held for elected justices of the peace so they can fulfill their continuing judicial education requirements, as required by the Texas Government Code.

The seminar addressed topics such as body language (non-verbal communication), ethics (commission on judicial conduct), media relations, dealing with difficult people, psychological evaluations, death investigations and toxicology reports, civil roundtable, criminal roundtable, effects of legal and illegal drugs on juveniles, and civil jurisdiction issues.
