Mrs. Smith

Thelma Smith
Funeral services for Lampasas resident Thelma A. Smith are Feb. 16, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel in Lampasas. Burial will be at Smith Cemetery at Oakalla.

Mrs. Smith died Feb. 11 at Rollins Brook Community Hospital. She was 103.

She was born Aug. 15, 1904, in Burnet County, the daughter of Emil Henry and Minnie Griebsch Lockman.

Mrs. Smith attended Southwest Texas Teacher's College in San Marcos and was a classmate of Lyndon B. Johnson. She taught all of John B. Connolly's children.

She married Buck Smith on June 8, 1929, in San Antonio.

Mrs. Smith was a homemaker who also cooked for the ranch hands on the Smith Ranch and also served as assistant postmaster at the Oakalla Post Office.

She was active in civic and church activities and the Retired Teacher's Association.

Survivors include two sons, Hansford B. Smith, and wife, Polly, of Lampasas, and Arthur Paul Smith, and wife, Laquetta, of Oakalla; five grandchildren, Genna Terry, of Lampasas, John Smith, of Oakalla, Sherry Gray, of Marble Falls, Tina Warlock, of Nashville, and Randall Smith, of Oakalla; and eight great-grandchildren, Shelly Fidler, Brittany Carl, Justin Terry, Jake Terry, Vannon Smith, Callyn Smith, Rawlin Smith and Avery Paul Smith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, and by a brother, Bernard Lockman.

The family requested memorials be made to Smith Cemetery Association in care of Genna Terry, 408 W. North Ave., Lampasas.
