Trees offered to residents

Ten free flowering trees will be given to each Texas resident who joins The National Arbor Day Foundation during February 2008 as part of the nonprofit foundation's Trees for America campaign.

Trees to be given include two white flowering dogwoods, two flowering crabapples, two Washington hawthorns, two American redbuds and two golden rain trees.

"These compact trees were selected for planting in large or small spaces," said John Rosenow, foundation president. "They will give your home the beauty of lovely pink, white and yellow flowers and provide winter berries and nesting sites for songbirds."

The trees will be shipped postpaid at the right time for planting between Feb. 1 and May 31, with enclosed planting instructions. The six- to 12-inch trees are guaranteed to grow or they will be replaced free of charge.

Members also receive a subscription to "Arbor Day," and the foundation's bimonthly publication, "The Tree Book," with information about tree planting and care.

To become a member of the foundation and to receive the free trees, send a $10 contribution to Ten Free Flowering Trees, National Arbor Day Foundation, 100 Arbor Ave., Nebraska City, NE 68410, by Feb. 29, or go to arborday.org.
