Junior High boys end season on high note

The Lometa Junior High boys' basketball team ended its season Monday with a near-perfect 10-1 record.

They faced competition this year from Cherokee, Eden, Lohn, Richland Springs and Rochelle.

The lone loss was suffered at the beginning of the season against Lohn. That game went into overtime.

The Hornets competed in the Eden Tournament and came home with a first-place plaque.

The team amassed 377 points during the season, outscoring their opponents by 172 points.

Eighth-grade team members are Cody Hand, Brandon Lilly, Mac Pauly, Hector Rivera, Ethan Saunders and Dylan Straley.

Members of the seventh-grade team are Hector Castillo, Tony Garcia, Kolby Hesbrook, Darian Maldonado, Cody Montgomery, Jesus Salazar and Chris Scarborough.

The coach said players gave 100 percent during the entire season. "They had great attitudes and respect for other players, coaches and fans."

Players improved a great deal over the season, he added. "They played well together and had a lot of fun."
