Mr. Minshew

Funeral services for Brownwood resident Cecil Wayne "Pop" Minshew were Feb. 6, 2008, at Heartland Funeral Home Chapel in Brownwood with Vester Ganey officiating. Burial was at Blake Cemetery at Williams Community.

Mr. Minshew died Feb. 5 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center. He was 67.

He was born May 7, 1940, in Winnsboro, Tenn., to J.R. and Willie Viola Little Minshew Sr.

Mr. Minshew grew up and attended school in Clovis, N.M., and later attended East Field Junior College in Dallas.

He joined the U.S. Navy in 1958, and served in the Fleet Navy on the USS Kearsarge. After his tour of duty was over, Mr. Minshew married Elizabeth Darlene Ketron on Aug. 10, 1962, in Dallas.

Mr. Minshew worked for BNSF Railway for 32 years maintaining heavy-duty equipment before retiring April 1, 2007.

He was an avid collector of railroad memorabilia and enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing dominoes.

Mr. Minshew moved to Brown County 20 years ago from Lampasas and had lived in the Grosvenor Community for the last 16 years.

He is survived by his wife of Brownwood; three sons, D. Wayne Minshew, and wife Joni, Victor Minshew and wife Meagan, and Josh Minshew and wife Loma, all of Brownwood; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Bill and Doris Minshew, of Abilene; and two sisters, Elizabeth Kizziar of Bangs, and Joyce Marie Minshew of Abilene.

Mr. Minshew was preceded in death by a sister, Lynetta Ann Minshew, and by a brother, J.R. Minshew Jr.
