History essay contest under way by DRT

The Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Oran Milo Roberts Chapter of Lampasas, are participating in the state's Outstanding Texas History Essay Contest and the Outstanding Teacher of Texas History Contest.

Purpose of the contests is to stimulate interest in the early history of Texas for schools and students across the state.

Essay subjects are: fourth grade, The Austin's of Texas; and seventh grade, The Texas Rangers.

Any student in grades four or seven or a teacher of Texas history in either grade is eligible to enter, including public, private or homeschool students.

Contest rules are available at Hanna Springs Intermediate or Lampasas Middle School.

Entries are due by Feb. 25. Local winners will be announced March 3 at the monthly meeting of the OMR-DRT at the Hancock Springs Hostess House. Prizes will be given to winners.
