Texas author, ecologist to appear

Noted Texas author and ecologist Malcolm Beck will speak at the meeting of the Highland Lakes Chapter of the Native Plant Society Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Marble Falls Library.

For decades, Beck has focused on how to achieve and permanently maintain the finest soil quality. Anyone is capable of doing their own composting and growing better plants if they apply the organic growing secrets Beck will share, said a society spokesman.

Beck's publications include "The Secret Life of Compost," "Texas Organic Vegetable Gardening," "The Gardenville Method," and "The Texas Bug Book."
