Garden club elects officers for 2008-09 term
Sharron Van Weelden was elected president at a recent meeting of the Browning Community Garden Club.
Other officers on the slate include Doris Magnor, continuing as vice president and handling publicity; Roxanne Dewalt, second vice president; Margaret Hoke, treasurer; and Koneta Saum, secretary.
New officers will serve for the club's 2008-09 term beginning in June.
The business meeting was opened by Mrs. Hoke's reading of "Blessings," an article taken from the "National Gardener," on invasive plants. It was reviewed by Connie Madison.
Mrs. Van Weelden presented a brief theme study on the snowball bush and gave a report on the needy the club supported at Christmas.
Silvia Rhoads, recycling coordinator for Copperas Cove, and Annabelle Smith, members of the Keep Copperas Cove Beautiful Association, spoke on landscaping and giving downtown Copperas Cove a new look.
A citywide garage sale is planned to help fund the project.
Due to inclement weather, the Arbor Day observance was rescheduled for today at 4 p.m. at the Kempner Post Office.
The Feb. 19 meeting, set at Clear Creek Baptist Church fellowship hall, will feature a basic floral design workshop by Mrs. Van Weelden, a professional designer.
