Youths participate in Fort Worth Stock Show

Artists invited to enter first annual juried exhibition
      The University of Mobile at Alabama is calling for entries of original artwork from artists in seven southern states for the first annual University of Mobile Juried Art Exhibition. Competition is open to visual artists working in any media, and only original artwork is accepted.

Sock hop slated by Girl Scouts unit
      Lampasas Service Unit of Girl Scouts of Central Texas will offer a 1950s night, Me and My Guy Sock Hop (for fathers and daughters) Feb. 15 from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Hanna Springs Intermediate School gymnasium. Cost is $12 per couple and $4 for each additional daughter.

Wine Lovers Trail slated
      The 2008 Wine Lovers Trail is Feb. 8-10 and Feb. 15-17, and meanders through 22 vineyards and wineries. Cost is $35 per couple, which includes a tasting at each winery, including two from Lampasas County: Pillar Bluff Vineyards, 556-4078, and Texas Legato Winery, 556-9600.

Leavell named to Dean's List
      Baylor University at Waco has announced its fall 2007 Dean's List honorees. From Lampasas, Alyssa Diane Leavell, an English major, earned that distinction. To be eligible, an undergraduate student must maintain a gradepoint average of 3.7 or better with a minimum of 12 semester hours.

Button Club Fair
      Bluebonnet Button Club's annual Button Fair is Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Herman Brown Free Library's Goodrich Room on the square in Burnet. There will be displays of collectible clothing buttons from club members' collections and some craft items using buttons.
