Lady Cougars trip LHS girls at home
On Friday night, with the Lampasas girls hanging around with the Lady Cougars early in the second period, Fontenette proved she can beat teams with her scoring ability as well. The Lady Badgers pulled within 13-10 in the opening minute of the second quarter when Molly Rogers stole a pass, and fed Casey O'Connor for a bucket that appeared to spark the Lady Badgers. Fontenette, who was in pass-first, shoot-second mode in the first period, followed O'Connor's shot by pushing the ball up the court and casually dropping a 3-pointer for a 16-10 lead. Fontenette went on to score nine points in the quarter, pushing the Lady Cougars' lead to 29-16 at the half on their way to a 60-32 win. "It's the same story: We give up scoring runs, and the game's over," LHS head coach Mitzi Lancaster said. "You can't let a team like that transition."
With the game in hand, Fontenette went back into pass-first mode. She finished with a teamhigh 11 points, but her passing led to five other players finishing with six or more points and 11 scoring at least two. The Lady Badgers, who have lost six straight since beating Hendrickson on Jan. 2, were led by Jennifer Howard's 12 points. Latoscha Sherman scored six, and Rogers, O'Connor and Lauren Barlow tallied four apiece. |
