Mackenzie Martin read the inscription on the historial marker placed at Nix recently. Settlers first came to the area in the 1860s, and a school was established in 1885. A new school was built in 1920 before Nix consolidated with the Lampasas Independent School District in 1952. The historic school later became the community center building. Miss Martin is the daughter of Rick and Ronda Corbin Martin, and the granddaughter of Roland and Avila Faught Corbin.
