Mr. Littrell
Funeral services were Jan. 24 at Sneed Funeral Chapel. A service with full military honors followed at Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, Ill., with burial at Valhalla Cemetery in Belleville, Ill., where Mr. Littrell grew up. He was born Aug. 23, 1923, in Hunter, Mo., to Harley Turley and Selina Marie Harding Littrell. Mr. Littrell was a retired heavy equipment operator from International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 520 of Granite City, Ill., having worked with the union over 35 years, with 22 of those with Killian Corp., of Mascoutah. He also farmed in the Shiloh Valley Township of St. Clair County, Ill., for a number of years and was a member of the Shiloh Valley Farm Bureau until he moved to Texas in 1980. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as an armor gunner on Mitchell B-25s in the Pacific during World War II and witnessed the atomic bombing of Nagasaki, Japan. Mr. Littrell earned numerous service medals, to include Bronze Stars, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Carbine Medal and an Honorable Service Award. He married Joanna Pauline "Polly" Nuckles on April 20, 1983, in Round Rock. He was a member of the Lampasas County Farm Bureau and a member of the Methodist church until he moved to Lampasas where he joined First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Littrell enjoyed woodworking, art, gardening, reading and cooking. Survivors include his wife of Lampasas; three children, Robert Littrell, and wife, Lori, of Mascoutah, Betty Crouse, and husband, Clyde, of Vancouver, Wash., and Steve Littrell, and wife, Cassandra, of St. Charles, Mo.; a sister, Julia Burgard; nine grandchildren, Amanda O'Campo, and husband, of Greenville, Janice Littrell and Robert J. Littrell Jr., and wife, Brittany, of Dallas, Rebecca Crouse, of Bellingham, Wash., Megan Poysnick, and husband, Luke, of Kirkland, Wash., Matthew Crouse, of Portland, Ore., Joshua Littrell, serving in the USAF in the Middle East, and Joey Littrell and Jacob Littrell, of St. Charles; a greatgrandson, James O'Campo, of Greenville; and two step-greatgranddaughters, Caleigh and McKenzie Littrell. He was preceded in death by his former spouse and mother of his children, Patsy Ann Turman Schrage; three brothers, Lloyd Littrell, Enos Littrell, Harry "Hap" Littrell; four sisters, infant Vesta, Marguerite Siebert, Louise Herges and Ruth "Sis" Moore; a sister-inlaw, Mary Littrell; a brother-in-law, Wilson Moore; and several nieces.
