Cattle Auction

The report from the Jan. 23 sale at Lampasas Cattle Auction is as follows.

Cattle and calves: Estimated receipts 579 compared to 741 last week and 350 last year. Feeder steers and heifers $3-$5 higher with some classes up to $7 higher; slaughter cows $2-$3 higher, and slaughter bulls $1-$2 higher.

Bulk supply medium and large 1- 2 300 lb. to 750 lb. feeder steers and heifers. Feeder steers and heifers accounted for 75 percent and slaughter cows and bulls 25 percent of the run. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 50 percent of the run and heifers 50 percent. Steers and heifers over 600 lbs. totaled 25 percent.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 300-400 lb., $111- $129, few $130-$132; 400-500 lb., $109-$119, few $120-$124; 500-600 lb., $96-$114; 600-700 lb., $91-$99; 700-800 lb. yearlings, $88-$93.

Medium and large frame 2, 200- 300 lb., $105-$107; 300-400 lb., $104-$107; 400-500 lb., $94- $106; 500-600 lb., $91-$102; 700- 800 lb., $82-$88.

Medium and large frame 3, 500- 600 lb., $85-$87.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 300-400 lb., $98- $109; light test 400-500 lb., $103- $113; 500-600 lb., $100-$110; light test 600-700 lb. $86-$93; 700-800 lb., $82-$85.

Medium and large frame 2, 300- 400 lb., $89-$91; 400-500 lb., $90-$95; 500-600 lb., $84-$94; 600-700 lb., $84-$86.

Slaughter cows: boners, 80-85 percent lean, 1,200-1,600 lb., average dressing, $48-$54; boners, 80- 85 percent lean, 1,000-1,200 lb., average dressing, $47-$54; lean, 85-90 percent, 1,000-1,200 lb., low dressing, $45-$48; lean, 85-90 percent, 800-1,000 lb., low dressing, $36-$46.

Slaughter bulls: yield grade 1-2, 1,500-1,800 lb., $61-$62; high dressing, 1,400-2,000 lb., $62-$67; low dressing, 1,200-1,300 lb., $47- $52.

Replacement cows: medium and large 1-2, young to middle aged 1,000-1,300 lb. cows, 4 to 8 months bred, $500-$700 per head.

Young replacement angus bulls: 1,000-1,220 hd.
