SPORTS SHORTS BADGER BASEBALL The Lampasas Badger Baseball RBI Club has scheduled its first meeting of the year for 7 p.m. Thursday at the LHS school library. TECH SIGNING DAY The Hill Country Chapter of the Texas Tech Alumni Association has scheduled its National Signing Day Extravaganza for Feb. 6 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Fredericksburg Events Center. Everyone is welcome to attend. Former Tech football coach Spike Dykes is scheduled to emcee the event. Red Raider defensive line coach Charlie Sadler will present video footage of and information about Tech's newly signed recruits. The cost is $30 per person. Admission includes a barbecue dinner, a cash bar, a raffle, an auction and memorabilia. HUNTING The National Wild Turkey Federation Hunting Heritage Banquet is scheduled for Feb. 7 at the Howard Johnson Inn in Killeen. Tickets are $40 for men, $35 for women and $15 for children. Admission includes an annual membership, a meal and entry to the auction. The organization serves Harker Heights, Killeen, Copperas Cove, Lampasas and surrounding areas. Interested participants should be in fifth, sixth or seventh grade and 12 or younger on May 1, 2008. Insurance and uniforms are included in the price. ALL-STAR FOOTBALL The Austin Wranglers Foundation has scheduled the 2008 Lone Star Arena Football Classic for 7 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin. The North-South all-star game features players from Central Texas high schools. Westwood's Anthony Wood will coach the North, and Seguin's Jim Carson will coach the South. Proceeds from the game will go to the Austin Wranglers Foundation. Admission is $10. For tickets, call 512-339-3939. Proceeds will benefit children in Central Texas Military Families who participate in organized sports. |
