Our Congress should work on energy policy I am one of your constituents who is being hammered by sky-high gasoline prices. Not only does it affect my fuel costs, it impacts everything I buy that requires transportation. A major reason is we are not drilling for new oil sources in our country. We have not built any new refineries or nuclear power plants in 30 years. Finally, Congress passed an energy bill. Does it provide for drilling for new sources of oil? Does it provide for building new refineries? Does it relax extremist environmental regulations that preclude our attaining energy independence? Of course not. It was passed by an incompetent, arrogant, useless Congress that accomplishes nothing. So what did you do? You banned incandescent light bulbs. Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you. I am sure this will cause gasoline prices to plummet. What are you thinking? By the way, the fluorescent bulbs you want us to use are more expensive and toxic to the environment. Your bill also contained endless pork spending that is destroying our economy and does nothing to solve our foreign energy dependence. Building multimillion dollar bridges to nowhere may give you an opportunity to puff up your chest and lie to your constituents about how you are "representing" them, but unfortunately it does nothing to solve the energy problem and contributes to our nation's financial problems. I have never seen a more arrogant, posturing Congress. You are destroying our nation. It is time for all incumbents to be gone. We keep electing and re-electing candidates from the Republican and Democrat parties. Problems keep getting worse. I suggest all voters vote for a thirdparty candidate this election. Our two failed parties need to receive a message. Donald Baker |
