Adamsville sets 100th anniversary celebration

Adamsville Heritage Association invites community members to its milestone 100th anniversary celebration Saturday from 1- 4 p.m. at the Adamsville Community Center, FM 581 East.

A proclamation reading will kick off events at 1:30 p.m., featuring committee chair Wanda Straley Lang and Heritage Association member Precinct 4 Commissioner Jack B. Cox.

An invocation will be given by the Rev. Glynn Tyson, pastor of Adamsville Baptist Church.

Refreshments will be offered that include recipes from a commemorative cookbook the committee is selling to raise funds for the city's continued beautification efforts.

The cookbook and an ancestral calendar will be available for sale during the event.

Also on exhibit will be a rough draft of "Adamsville, Ancestors & New People," the 2008 community story book. Advance orders will be taken.

The official plat for the community was recorded on Jan. 20, 1908.
