The Hornets (14-5 overall, 0-1 in district) were outscored 18-0 in the second quarter in a 58-37 loss to Richland Springs, going 0 of 7 from the field in the period. They are scheduled to play host to Cherokee (0-1 in district) tonight at 6:30 p.m.

The Lady Hornets (0-2 in district) lost their District 29, Division II-opener against Eden, 31- 21, last Friday. They will play host to Cherokee in a district game at 6:30 p.m. today.

Against Richland Springs: "The team fought hard, but we were outscored by nine points in the third quarter," Lometa head coach Brandy Eckermann said. "We need to work on playing four quarters of basketball. We have a tendency to back off in the third quarter, and that is when the game turns. We were prepared for this game and achieved our goals from practice. It was a good game, but we just couldn't finish it out."

In the loss to Richland Springs, Taylor Bradley had a team-high 17 points. Kylie Bradley, Marcy Garcia and Maribel Reyes chipped in six points apiece, Maria Jasso scored four, and Jeannette Rosales and Nayla Rosales added two apiece.

In the loss to Eden, Taylor Bradley scored 10 of the team's 21 points. Jasso registered four points, Kylie Bradley added three, Maribel Reyes two, and Marcy Garcia and Cassidy Wienecke each sank a free throw.

The Lady Hornets trailed 16-2 at the half.

"We were looking for a win, but we couldn't get our offense going," Eckermann said. "Only having two points in the first half hurt us, and we had a hard time recovering. Defensively, the girls did exactly what they needed to."
