The president we really need There is no way that America is going to elect the president our country sorely needs. Our next president will not be representing the working poor in this country. He or she will not be elected to represent the middle class, which earns less than $100,000 a year. Our next president will be accessible and accountable to those who come across with big-time bucks. There will be, of course, photo ops occasionally with the working poor and the middle class, when it is beneficial to do so. There is no way that corruption and favoritism will go away once the 2008 elections are over. The congressmen and senators we elect in '08 will vote for and pass legislation to benefit the party they represent and to whomever came across with the most money to get them elected. (That old cash hog keeps wanting more and more.) You may think what I am saying is harsh and un- American. Not the case. Think about this: A dedicated president working with a Congress and Senate that truly wants to do what is best for all Americans and cure what ails our country can put us on the right path in two years or less. So why don't they? James T. Bennett |
