Mrs. Calvert

Bessie Ruth Calvert died Jan. 1, 2008, in Lampasas. She was 101.

Funeral services were Jan. 5 with Tyler Doyle, Mrs. Calvert's grandson, officiating. Grandsons and great-grandsons were pallbearers.

Mrs. Calvert was born Nov. 22, 1906, in Buffalo, the second daughter of Charles Lafayette and Charity Anne Phillips Shoemaker.

She was a housewife for many years and worked at Corsicana Paper Mill for more than 25 years.

Mrs. Calvert was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, where she was a children's worker.

Survivors include her children, Billy Calvert, and Nita, of College Station, Wendell Calvert, and Beverly, and Pam Calvert, all of San Antonio, and Kaye Walters, of Lampasas; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; seven greatgreat grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 70 years, Clyde Calvert; children, Clyde Jr., Betty Hammock and James Charles; and grandchildren, Brian and Rebecca Walters.

The family requests memorials be made to First Baptist Church or to the charity of one's choice.
