Boys continue winning ways at Jonesboro
The Hornets are scheduled to play host to Buckholts today at 3:30 p.m. The Hornets opened the Zephyr Tournament with a 53-39 win against the host school. They toppled Rochelle, 66-47, in the second round before falling to May in the semifinals, 61-51. They rebounded from the loss to beat Evant, 48-41, in the third-place game. "I think some of our players grew up in a basketball sense and started doing the things we've been trying to do all year," Lometa head coach Wendell Bradley said. "Hopefully, this will help propel us into district play (which opens at Richland Springs on Tuesday)." Joe Michael Rivera, who connected on five 3-pointers against both Rochelle and May, and Toby Davis were named to the all-tournament team.
Against Rochelle, Rivera scored 22 points, 15 of which came from beyond the arc. Rolan scored 18 points and grabbed 22 rebounds, Cruz registered 11 points and nine rebounds, and Faubion recorded seven points and 12 rebounds. In the loss to May, Rivera had 17 points, again scoring 15 of them on treys. Rolan chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds, and Cruz registered nine points and eight assists.
