The Lometa boys' basketball team improved to 12-4 on the year with a 67-40 road win against Jonesboro on Wednesday, following up its third-place finish at the Zephyr Tournament Dec. 27-29.

The Hornets are scheduled to play host to Buckholts today at 3:30 p.m.

The Hornets opened the Zephyr Tournament with a 53-39 win against the host school. They toppled Rochelle, 66-47, in the second round before falling to May in the semifinals, 61-51. They rebounded from the loss to beat Evant, 48-41, in the third-place game.

"I think some of our players grew up in a basketball sense and started doing the things we've been trying to do all year," Lometa head coach Wendell Bradley said. "Hopefully, this will help propel us into district play (which opens at Richland Springs on Tuesday)."

Joe Michael Rivera, who connected on five 3-pointers against both Rochelle and May, and Toby Davis were named to the all-tournament team.
