TSO to host recognized performer
Additional concerts will be Jan. 26 in Killeen and Jan. 27 in Georgetown. Admission to the Temple event is $20 for adults; $5 for students; and free for active duty military. Tickets are available at the Cultural Activities Center, Holze Music, Von Music and Temple College. They also will be available at the door. Ms. Carlson, a Duluth, Minn., native, was introduced to music at an early age, and throughout high school she performed in musicals and singing in her church choir. After high school, she joined a band, "Summer," and hit the road covering tunes from groups such as Cream and Jefferson Airplane. the six-member band traveled throughout the Midwest and Northwest. After several band name changes, Ms. Carlson left the group, became a bookkeeper and met and married her husband in Wisconsin. The couple moved to Florida, where Ms. Carlson began singing again. She and Gene Hunt, a New York pianist living in Florida, formed Carlson-Hunt Duo. They played six nights a week at local resorts for four years before Ms. Carlson put her career on hold to rear two children. In 1996, Ms. Carlson re-established her music career, and produced her first album, "Once in a Blue Moon," with Frank Mantooth, a successful Chicago-area jazz pianist. He also collaborated with her on her 1999 Christmas album, which earned her a Grammy nomination. Ms. Carlson and her husband live in the Chicago area. ![]() |
