Former law official dies Monday at Metroplex

Charles Wernette
Charles Edward Wernette, 63, of Lampasas County died Dec. 31, 2007, at Metroplex Hospital in Killeen.

Funeral services were Jan. 3 at Sneed Funeral Chapel in Lampasas with Bruce Crawford officiating. Burial was at Nix Cemetery in Lampasas County.

Mr. Wernette was born April 10, 1944, in Corpus Christi, the son of Herman George and Elizabeth Heil Wernette.

He worked for the Border Patrol and later was a tactical operation officer for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

Mr. Wernette married Lynn Black on Oct. 28, 1983, in Dallas.

The Wernettes bought a place in Lampasas County in 1992 and later built a home there and moved to Lampasas County in 1998.

Mr. Wernette was a member of Saratoga Masonic Lodge and Lake Victor Masonic Lodge, Hurst Chapter and Council, Fort Worth Scottish Rite and Retired Border Patrol Association.

He also served as past president of Lampasas County Conservative Club.

He enjoyed watching his cows.

Mr. Wernette is survived by his wife of Lampasas; a daughter, Ashley Meredith, and husband, David Meredith; and a son, Brian Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family requested memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society.
