Blood drives set Monday at two Lampasas sites

Lampasas residents will have the choice to attend one of two blood drives scheduled Monday in Lampasas.

The first American Red Cross Community Blood Drive of the new year is set at AMVETS Post 80, U.S. Highway 281 South, from 12:30- 6:30 p.m.

And the first Carter BloodCare drive in Lampasas is on tap from 1- 6 p.m. at H-E-B, 705 S. Key Ave.

The American Red Cross urges donors to support National Volunteer Blood Donor Month in January.

"While the winter holidays have ended, the need for blood donors still exists," said Wanda Meyers, local Red Cross drive coordinator.

"More than ever, we need to pull together and help save the lives of family members, friends, neighbors and colleagues, and what better time than during this special month.

"This year, as many as 5 million patients will require blood transfusions. Make a New Year's resolu- tion to celebrate '08 and donate."

For more information, contact Mrs. Meyers at 556-3338. Donors will receive a free gift and be treated to homemade goodies.

Those who give blood during the Carter BloodCare drive in January or February will be entered in a weekly drawing for a gift card, and a grand prize fitness club membership will be offered.

"Blood transfusions are a critical part of everyday medicine," said Dr. Merlyn Sayers, CEO of Carter BloodCare. "Giving blood is safe, convenient and keeps our community blood supply in great shape, which means patients get the blood they need when they need it."

Donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good health. Bring photo identification to participate in either drive.

Information on the drive set at the local grocery story is available by contacting Ryan Wilson at 556- 3461 or at carterbloodcare.org.
