Lometa stock show kicks off competition season
Shaun Meeks took the grand championship in the breeding goat division. After several days of frigid weather, Saturday dawned warm for the Lometa Junior Livestock Show, as exhibitors and supporters filled the Lometa Show Barn.
The event marks the beginning of the countdown until the county show scheduled for Jan. 9-10.
Judging this year's Lometa show was Jeffrey Osbourne, manager of Jordan Cattle Auction in San Saba. Osbourne competed on the livestock judging team at Angelo State University. He and his family raise show pigs.
Competition was stiff in the Lometa show ring, as exhibitors from across Lampasas County lined up to contend for the top spots and take advantage of an opportunity for valuable practice time in the show ring.
Taking grand champion in the market steer division was Reese Vann, who was also awarded senior showmanship honors in the cattle division.
Hadley Berry's steer was named reserve champion.
Capturing the junior showmanship title in cattle was Trilby Holloman.
In the heifer division, Kayleigh Beavers received grand champion, while Maci Procter captured reserve champion.
Michael Fisher was named senior swine showmanship winner. In the market lamb competition, grand champion went to Ty Pauly, and his brother, Sam Pauly, received reserve champ honors. Showmanship went to Morgan Tongish in the senior division, and Mikhaila Barnett was named junior showman.
