Hornets, Lady Hornets make it to tourney's championship round
      The Lady Hornets might want to consider raising the bar a little. Sporting a 3-6 overall record heading into the Cherokee Invitational, head coach Brandy Eckermann just wanted her squad to feel the thrill of a first-round victory in a tournament setting.

Church of the Hills sets community presentation
      joining together in the spirit of the season. The play, "The Gift," will be presented this weekend at Church of the Hills, and is open to the public. The 360-degree panoramic production, a play in which a set is built around the audience, will be held in the sanctuary of Church of the Hills where the entire worship facility has been transformed into the city of Bethlehem.

Super Bowl champs
      The Lometa Hornets are the Super Bowl champions of the Texas 6-man Pee Wee Football League. The championship game was held in Richland Springs where the Hornets defeated Richland Springs 28-0, ending the season with a 6-0 record.

Couple observe 60th anniversary
      Lloyd and Bettye Alexander of Lometa celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at a barbecue lunch with family members on Nov. 29. Those in attendance included their three children and spouses, Lloyd Bryon Jr.

      Navy Fireman Dakota D. Saunders of Lometa, along with fellow sailors and Marines aboard USS Dubuque, Peleliu Expeditionary Strike Group (PELSEG), homeported in San Diego, Calif., recently returned from a six-month deployment to the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet areas of operation.

Lometa stock show kicks off competition season
      After several days of frigid weather, Saturday dawned warm for the Lometa Junior Livestock Show, as exhibitors and supporters filled the Lometa Show Barn. The event marks the beginning of the countdown until the county show scheduled for Jan. 9-10.
