PHOTO BY DAVID LOWE Lampasan William Raley was transported by helicopter to Scott & White Memorial Hospital on Wednesday morning after the 1993 Ford Festiva he was driving hit the rear end of an unattended 2001 Daewoo sedan parked on the eastbound shoulder of U.S. Highway 190 about two miles east of Lampasas. Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Jimmy Chesnut, who assisted DPS Trooper Patrick Hodgkiss with his investigation, described Raley's injuries as serious. A Lampasas man sustained serious injuries in a two-vehicle accident about two miles east of Lampasas on Wednesday morning.
William Raley, driving a 1993 Ford Festiva, was traveling east on U.S. Highway 190 about 9:55 a.m. when, for unknown reasons, he drifted off the highway to the south, Texas Department of Public Safety trooper Jimmy Chesnut said. Chesnut and trooper Monte Carroll assisted with trooper Patrick Hodgkiss' investigation.
The Festiva hit the rear side of an unattended 2001 Daewoo sedan parked on the eastbound shoulder and then veered back into the inside eastbound lane. The collision pushed the Daewoo onto its passenger side in a bar ditch.
Raley was transported by helicopter to Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple. The driver was wearing the shoulder strap of his automatic, split seat belt, Chesnut said, but Raley was not wearing his lap belt.
The Lampasas Fire Department, Lampasas County Sheriff's Department and Capital Ambulance also responded to the scene.
