Lubbock choir to present holiday event

2008-12-12 / Lifestyles

Lubbock Christian University Praise Choir and Chamber Singers will present a free concert at First Street Church of Christ on Dec. 19 at 7 p.m.

The choir is a choral ensemble of over 50 voices that tours among churches and communities in West Texas and the southwestern U.S.

The Chamber Singers is an ensemble of 19 singers that performs a wide variety of choral literature, including music from style periods ranging from the 16th century Renaissance through vocal jazz.

Every other year, the choirs travel overseas to present concerts in conjunction with evangelism campaigns organized by church leaders all over the world.

Past choral/campaign efforts under the direction of Dr. Camp have included outreach events in the Philippines (1998), Mexico (2000), Australia (2001 and 2005), Ireland (2003), upstate New York (2006), and Eastern Europe (2007).

In March 2009, the choirs plan to return to Eastern Europe where they will sing in many evangelism outreach programs in Ukraine in partnership with Eastern Europe Mission.

About 60 students from Praise Choir and the Chamber Singers will join forces on the December 2008 tour through Texas.

Their program, designed to spiritually uplift and encourage audiences of all ages, incorporates a wide variety of a cappella sacred music, including classical choral anthems, new arrangements of favorite hymns, Christian contemporary songs and spirituals, all woven together with scripture readings in such a way that a continuous theme or "sermon" is presented.

Throughout the performance, a visual slide presentation will project texts of the songs and other images to enhance the program.

The event is free and open to the public.

CD recordings of both the Praise Choir and Chamber Singers will be made available following the concert.
