Swine show a good tune-up for January county event
Lampasas FFA member Trampus Morrison registers his swine entries at the annual District FFA Swine Show hosted by the Lampasas FFA. Morrison had a winning day, taking reserve champion with his Yorkshire breed and a second place in the Hampshire class. The annual District FFA Swine Show held Saturday at the Lampasas County Livestock Show Barn was a day of much success for local FFA and 4-H members.
More than 125 hogs from six counties were exhibited, and several youth won champion and reserve champion "bragging rights," as well as showmanship award finalists.
Michael Fisher, Kirby Kennedy and Sara Jackson were finalists in the senior showmanship award division.
Lane Cardenas took first with his mediumweight cross pig, and Kleg Kennedy took the intermediate swine showmanship title and reserve champion black OPB breed.
Kirby Kennedy was grand champion in the white OPB competition, earning her a belt buckle.
Bryce Ramon took first in the lightweight white OPB division, and Emily Pardon was awarded two first-place ribbons for her mediumweight and heavyweight black OPB hogs.
Sara Jackson, a senior FFA member, was a finalist for the senior showmanship award at the swine show. Trampus Morrison was named reserve champion in the Yorkshire breed division.
Other awards went to Taylor Loeffler, second, lightweight OPB; Bryce Ramon, fifth, mediumweight Duroc; Michael Fisher, fourth, Duroc; Shannon O'Keefe, second, heavyweight Duroc; Trampus Morrison, second, lightweight Hampshire; and Heather O'Keefe, second, mediumweight Hampshire.
Also earning awards were Nolan Ramon, third, mediumweight Hampshire; Kleg Kennedy, first, lightweight black OPB; Shelby O'Keefe, third, white OPB; Justin Reid, third, black OPB breed; and Brogan Wykes, fourth, heavyweight cross.
