Couple exchange vows in Florence ceremony
      Amanda Burson and Kolton Latham, both of Gatesville, were united in marriage on Sept. 27, 2008, at The Vineyard at Florence. Elder Bruce Crawford of Lampasas officiated the doublering evening ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Brian and Donna Burson of Florence. She is the granddaughter of Rosie Brown of Lampasas and the late W.L.

      The November/December 2008 edition of "The Alcalde," a publication of The Ex-Students' Association of The University of Texas, offers a feature that salutes the entrepreneur. This month's selection is Lampasas artist and 1992 UT graduate Nancy Gray.

LHS to host program on `cyberbullying'
      Lampasas High School will present a community session on "cyberbullying." With today's technology comes inherent precautions that must be taken. Today's youth are much more exposed than adults may be aware. Cyberbullying occurs on the Internet (My Space, Facebook, etc.), on mobile phones and other digital technologies.

      The Pierian Club will hold its 22nd annual Christmas Concert and Tea on Dec. 2 at 4 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church. The concert is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served following the presentation.

Trees, gingerbread houses to be on display
      Keystone Square Museum's annual Christmas Tree Exhibit and Gingerbread House Contests will kick off Dec. 5 during the Carol of Lights Festival at 303 S. Western St. This year's theme is An Americana Christmas. Decorated trees should be delivered to the museum on Nov. 29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or Dec.

      Preservation Lampasas Inc. is sponsoring a "Buy a window" project to raise funds for restoration of the historic Lampasas Colored School. Plaques will be placed next to the window naming the donor or honoree.

Crime victims to be honored at Dec. 2 event
      As the holiday season approaches, the Bell County Crime Victims' Coalition will pay tribute to area victims of crime by offering surviving victims and family members of all crimes the opportunity to place an angel ornament on a tree in recognition, memory or honor of their loved one who was a victim of a crime.

Montanan with Lampasas ties elected to state senate
      Montana voters recently elected Taylor Brown, nephew of Niel Brown of Lampasas and cousin of Charlie Brown of Lampasas, to represent State Senate District 22. Brown, a Republican, defeated Democrat Lane L. Larson 55 percent to 45 percent. Brown garnered 4990 of 9112 votes.

      Students at Hanna Springs Intermediate School participated in a Veterans Day salute that included Jan Klose's choir, skits, a speech from a Fort Hood chaplain and other events.

      Oran Milo Roberts Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas will hold its annual Christmas dinner with guests invited on Dec. 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hancock Springs Hostess House. Members will bring a vegetable, dessert or a salad.

      Lampasas County Retired Teachers Association will meet Dec. 2 at Lometa United Methodist Church for a holiday meal. Mary Casbeer will grill the meat dish for the meal, and members are asked to bring a covered dish of vegetables, a salad or dessert.

      Lampasas Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Brant Myers will host a tour of the new Lampasas High School campus on Dec. 1. To attend, be at the District Administration Building at 4:30 p.m. for a short bus ride to the construction site. Wear walking shoes.

      Lampasas Mission received more than $2,300 raised by Wal-Mart associates at the recent Halloween Fest, sponsored by the store and members of the community. Funds were presented to members of the board of Lampasas Mission and its food pantry manager.

Ramirez to dance in Austin
      Ballet Austin will bring the company's 46th annual production of "The Nutcracker" to the Long Center for Performing Arts. The cast will include a Del Valle dancer who has ties to Lampasas. Francesca Ramirez will join the ballet company to dance the role of an angel.

      Today's Girl Youth Organization will perform a community service activity benefitting Lampasas Mission by collecting non-perishable food items at the Lampasas Today's Girl competition on Saturday at Grace Fellowship Church on U.S. Highway 281 South.

      FFA/agriscience student Garrett Gould offloads meat and cookie products to Curtis Smith, while members organize and sort the goodies as part of the annual Lampasas FFA fund-raiser held each fall.

      The Courtyard Square Association is offering non-profit organizations an opportunity to raise funds during the Carol of Lights Festival set Dec. 5 downtown. Free booth space and information is available by phoning Todd Briggs at 556-8030.

American Lung Association celebrates 101st campaign
      Millions will soon receive Christmas Seals in the mail courtesy of the American Lung Association. The decorative holiday stamps are part of an annual fund-raising tradition dating back to 1907 when the Lung Association led efforts to conquer tuberculosis.
