Former Republican Party chair, longtime rancher dies
James E. Moore Jr. Funeral services for lifelong Lometa resident James Edwin Moore Jr., 79, were Nov. 19, 2008, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Lampasas with the Rev. Reid Morgan officiating. Burial followed at Hines Chapel Cemetery in Lampasas County.
He died Nov. 17 at his residence.
Mr. Moore was born Oct. 10, 1929, in Lometa, the son of James Edwin Moore Sr. and Martha Edna Ricks.
He married Patsy Morene Ballow on March 22, 1951, in Evant.
Mr. Moore received an associate's degree in engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. He had worked for U.S. Civil Service and Sprint.
He served in the Texas Army National Guard.
Mr. Moore, a third-generation rancher on his family's land, was presented a Family Land Heritage plaque from the Texas Department of Agriculture acknowledging the ranching operation for more than 100 years by the same family.
He was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church where he had been a lay reader and a youth group sponsor. Mr. Moore also was a former chairman of the Lampasas County Republican Party and was former president of the Jaycees.
Survivors include his wife of Lometa; a son and his wife, Jem Ed and Annette Moore of Lometa; two daughters, Carole Miller and husband, Bob, of Evant, and Martha Moore of Adamsville; grandchildren, Jammie Sinclair, Christie Allen, Carlie Muelker, Joslynn Bekkelund, Stephanie Storm, April Summers, Douglas Summers, Jaemen Moore, Nolan Glynn, Trevor Glynn and Jordan Glynn; great-grandchildren, Austin Bekkelund, Bailey Janisch, Colby Storm, Aleesha Summers, Aubrey Storm, Ashton Summers and Blanche Muelker.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Blanche, and by a grandson, Lewis.
The family requested memorials be made to St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Lampasas or VistaCare Hospice in Temple.
Pallbearers were Deon McGimpsey, Shane Green, Darryl Raub, Pepper Procter, Lynn Perkins, Roy Cockrell, Charlie Wolfe and Shawn Fontenot.
