      Classics at the Classic met Nov. 8 at the back parking lot of Storm's Drive-In. The group proceeded to A Face of the West Museum, owned by Larry and Lisa Pohlmann, who gave a tour of the museum and provided refreshments for visitors.

Jazz concert, potato supper set Thursday
      The Lampasas High School wind ensemble, under the direction of Richard Hooper, and the Heights Concert Band, directed by founder and conductor Carlton R. Morris, will present a joint band concert in Lampasas. The event is Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Bozarth-Fowler Gym. The Heights Concert Band will kick off the music and will be joined by LHS musicians for the grand finale.

Window purchase will benefit school
      Preservation Lampasas Inc. is sponsoring a "Buy a window" project to raise funds for restoration of the historic Lampasas Colored School. Plaques will be placed next to the window naming the donor or honoree. Cost is $1,300, and 11 windows are needed for the school.

Art gallery demo on tap
      Kim Roberti will be the guest artist of the month at the Highland Art Gallery on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. for a demo on oil still life. Ms. Roberti, born in Vietnam, came to the U.S. as an exchange student when she was 16. In 2000, she began to paint full time.

Museum to accept trees, gingerbread houses
      Keystone Square Museum's annual Christmas Tree Exhibit and Gingerbread House Contests will kick off Dec. 5 during the Carol of Lights Festival at 303 S. Western St. This year's theme is An Americana Christmas. Decorated trees should be delivered to the museum on Nov. 29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or Dec. 1 from 5-6 p.m.

Christmas craft show planned
      The Red Barn Craft Group will sponsor its annual Christmas bazaar Nov. 28 from 1-5 p.m. and Nov. 29 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Red Barn Community Center, Highway 261 (Lakeshore Drive) in Buchanan Dam. Many local crafters will participate and offer everything from jewelry to quilts and candles to wood products.

Founder remembered as Adamsville's centennial celebration winds down
      The Adamsville Heritage Association has established the founding date of the Adamsville community as 1908. This date was based on a plat map or subdivision map dated Jan. 20, 1908, and it coincides with the year the Straley Common County School changed names to Adamsville. People have lived in the area since Lampasas County was created in 1856.

Critical funding needed to keep CASA services; event set to raise funds
      Court Appointed Special Advocates for the Highland Lakes Area is seeking immediate emergency funds to help maintain its level of staff and services. CASA suffered almost $34,000 in state and federal grant funding cuts and is struggling to raise enough money to maintain current staffing, said a CASA representative.

      A piano concert in an underground cavern? That is what's planned for Saturday at Longhorn Caverns State Park, when local pianist Joe Cordi will offer a jazz concert as part of the Simple Sounds Cavern Concert Series.

      An opportunity to learn about the ecology of the Hill Country will be available this spring through the Highland Lakes Chapter of Texas Master Naturalists. The focus of the Master Naturalist program is to increase a person's knowledge of natural Texas, and then to apply that knowledge through volunteer service to local communities.

      Registration is under way for Tarleton State University-Central Texas' spring 2009 semester, which begins Jan. 12. Registration also will be open for the December mini-semester's three-week term (Dec. 22 to Jan. 7), the spring I (Jan. 12 to March 6) and spring II (March 16 to May 8) eight-week terms.
