All-District honors for Badgers
In writing this letter I am torn between feeling the need to say these things about "My Football Team" and not wanting to offend anyone or hurt feelings.
First of all, I am a Badger fan, all the way! Win or lose, I support them. I believe that as winning is a team effort, so is losing. I am in no way educated or qualified to diagnose the problems or issues with the football team. What I do know is that there are a group of boys out there who have played together for most of their lives, be it football, baseball or tag, that desperately want to win.
Now here is where I am passionate. These boys, as a team, have had two total-loss seasons, with the exception of the few who have been honored with being named to All-District teams.
As I opened the paper Friday, hoping that finally the boys who worked the hardest and were appointed to All-District teams would be honored, no such luck. These seven boys who earned either first-team or second team honors, as well as numerous honorable mentions, were barely recognized. If you missed the "article," which was extremely easy to do, it was a 1- inch-by-2-inch blip on the Sports page. This, in comparison to the full-page articles that came out every Tuesday about the previous Friday's losing game.
I am very concerned that we are focusing on the negative and not giving credit where credit is due. These boys and their coaches have been working -- and working hard -- to get a win. And even though that did not happen, I think the effort and the small acknowledgement of the All-District players is the very least they could ask.
Please consider submitting an article about the All- District players with pictures and bios included. We, as their parents, would like to cut the article out of the paper and add it to their scrapbook.
