Hornets earn playoff spot, shot at district title
      Lately, the Hornets are showing no mercy on their opponents. They are leaving that to the referees. For the third consecutive week, Lometa concluded its game early after building a large lead and invoking the 45-point "mercy" rule.

Lometa Vets Day program scheduled
      Lometa Independent School District will hold its annual salute to veterans on Wednesday in the school gymnasium. Events begin at 10 a.m. All veterans and the general public are invited. The school choir will perform, and a unit from Fort Hood will be on hand. The Alpha Rangers Color Guard also will participate.

Part-Time Players set comedy, dinner
      The Part-Time Players is a group of Lometa citizens and Lometa High School graduates who make up the cast of "Dearly Departed," a comedy by David Bottrell and Jessie Jones, set Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. in the Lometa School auditorium.

Free trees to be given
      The Arbor Day Foundation is offering two free give-a-tree cards to those who join the foundation during November. Every give-a-tree card honors the recipient with a tree planted in one of the nation's forests. At the same time, give-a-tree cards help the environment by replanting trees in a forest that has been devastated by disease and record wildfires.
