Both Badgers' freshman squads bounce Kangaroos

Both Lampasas' freshman football squads posted convincing wins over Killeen last Thursday evening inside Badger Stadium.
The Blue team opened the doubleheader by recording a 13-0 shutout before the White team pulled away in the second half of its game with the Kangaroos, earning a 30-12 victory.
Killeen controlled the ball for the first five minutes of the first contest until turning the ball over on downs inside its opponent's red zone.
Unfortunately, Lampasas couldn't capitalize.
After losing a fumble on its first play from scrimmage, the Blue team made an impressive defensive stand deep inside its own territory, posting a three-and-out against Killeen and reclaiming possession at its own seven-yard line.
Despite controlling the clock and chipping away at the Roos' defense with an unrelenting ground attack, Lampasas ran out of time when the halftime buzzer sounded.
Eric Dalton (10) breaks up a pass intended for Tyrell Taylor. The Badgers received the kickoff after the break and moved down to the Killeen 20-yard line before a holding penalty knocked them back 10 yards. Following a short loss on second-and-23, quarterback Hunter Stephens threw an interception.
Two plays later, Lampasas returned the favor when Zellious Wright jumped in the passing lane and reclaimed possession of the ball, setting up his own five-yard touchdown run two plays later.
A two-point conversion attempt failed, and the Badgers led 6-0 with 2:19 remaining in the third quarter.
The Roos had a chance to take the lead late in the contest, but with a little more than a minute remaining Killeen's center sent a snap sailing over the quarterback's head, and Emmanuel Lopez snatched up the loose ball and returned it to the Killeen seven-yard line.
With 26 seconds left in the game, Stephens clinched the 13-0 victory on a two-yard touchdown run.
While the Blue team needed nearly three quarters to get on the board, the White squad chipped away at the Roos with an effective ground attack, taking less than four minutes to post an 8-0 lead following a touchdown pass from Brandon Scott to Tanner Swinford and Stephen McKinney's two-point conversion.
Killeen responded with a 20-play, 80-yard drive, punctuated by a rushing touchdown from two yards out.
The Roos' attempt for two points failed, leaving the Badgers with a slim advantage at 8-6.
On Lampasas' first play after the ensuing kickoff, Scott broke free for a touchdown, but the referees blew an inadvertent whistle, calling back the 51-yard trot.
Scott quickly made up for the blown call by stringing together a pair of runs that advanced the Badgers down to Killeen's 5-yard line where Justin Maldonado punched in the score.
Bailey Millican's reception from Scott on the two-point conversion increased the White team's lead to 16-6.
The Roos put together an 11-play scoring drive on their next possession, but after failing on the twopoint attempt they trailed by four points, 16-12, with 3:38 remaining in the first half.
After forcing a three-and-out on the opening drive of the third quarter, the Badgers took control, running 45 yards in three plays for a touchdown. Justin DeLaCruz recorded the score, and Scott added it to it with a successful two-point conversion run.
The White team got its last score with 13 seconds left in the game when Scott crossed the goal line on an 18-yard run, making the final score 30-12.
