Rash of burglaries hit local businesses; warrants to be issued

Thieves used Storms' own dolly to remove a 300-pound safe with money from the drive-in restaurant last Thursday. Police believe the suspects are responsible for five other burglaries the same night. Warrants will be issued for the arrest of two suspects, officials have said. The Lampasas Police Department is seeking four warrants on two out-of-town subjects after a rash of burglaries that Chief Tim Angermann said likely took place between midnight and 5 a.m. last Thursday.

Burglaries were reported at Storm's Drive-In, Lampasas Hardware, Shooting Star Books & Gifts, Peddlers Alley Shoe Store, Diamond G Concepts and Mr. Gatti's.

In all burglaries, cash and change were the only items taken, except at Storm's where the thieves removed a 300-pound safe with cash, said the chief.

Each break-in was investigated initially by Officers Dean Werlinger and Carl Boatwright with follow-up and ongoing investigations by Asst. Chief Sammy Bailey, Lt. Jody Cummings and Sgt. Investigator Charlie Boswell.

Angermann believes all six break-ins were committed by the same individuals.

Entry was gained through the back of each building, with the exception of the hardware store where thieves broke out a piece of glass in the front door.

"We want the community to be aware that this is going on and that the closer it gets to the holidays, the more crime picks up," Angermann said.

Officials are seeking assistance from the public. Anyone who saw anything or noticed suspicious activity is asked to contact the Police Department.

Angermann said he is uncertain if there is a connection between these robberies and those that occurred late last month at Storm's Drive-In, where money was taken, and Canales Sheetmetal and TexAir where a large amount of tools and copper were taken.

As the investigation continues, police believe additional warrants will be sought.
