Carrie Copley A memorial service for Carrie Mallett Oakley Copley, 99, of Burnet was Nov. 3, 2008, at Clements- Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet. Burial followed at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Copley died Oct. 31 in Burnet.
She was born June 18, 1909, in Lake Victor in Burnet County, the daughter of Thomas Hardin and Amkea "Anna" Mallett, where she lived until her marriage.
Mrs. Copley graduated from Bethel School near Lake Victor and married George Albert Oakley on Dec. 11, 1926.
They moved to the Oakley farm where he farmed. Her husband preceded her in death on Feb. 7, 1936, at which time Mrs. Copley sold the family farm so she could attend Nixon-Clay Commercial College in Austin, receiving a diploma at age 26.
During that time, the family lived in Austin, Temple and Burnet.
After finishing school, Mrs. Copley worked for LCRA in Lampasas and was later transferred to Burnet. In 1940, she was transferred to Johnson City, where she remained for two years before moving back to Lampasas.
She married John Copley in 1957, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 29, 1994.
They were active in Eastern Star, and Mrs. Copley was a volunteer with the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
She is survived by two sons, Willis Albert Oakley and Roy Howell Oakley and their wives; nine grandchildren; 22 greatgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Raynor, Bernard, Thomas, Harry and Lallerstedt Mallett; four sisters, Hattie Stewart, Clara Wright, Lillie Williams and Anna Berry; and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Sue Oakley.
The family requested memorials be made to Burnet Eastern Star or to the charity of one's choice.
