Marlene Gillman of Killeen, director of Texas Garden Clubs District V, presented a program on pocket gardens at a recent meeting of Browning Community Garden Club.

Mrs. Gillman suggested the home landscape be divided into one-third grass, one-third hardscape and one-third garden flower beds. Native adaptive plants and perennials were recommended. Also consider grasses such as Mexican and feather grass and Jerusalem sage, she said.

Doris Magnor opened the business session with a reading of "The Touch of God," then reported on master gardener Irma Mace's talk on organic gar- dening at a recent field trip to Oma's Nursery in Killeen.

Margaret Hoke read Trevor McGuire's speech taken from the Lone Star Gardener.

A theme study on composting was given by Connie Madison. Samples of homemade compost were distributed.

The group will hold a bake sale Saturday.

They were reminded to make reservations to attend the Nov. 7 Zone Meeting in Goldthwaite.

At the Nov. 18 meeting set at Clear Creek Baptist Church's Fellowship Hall, Hideko DeWalt will provide a program on butterflies.
