Criminal justice scholarship to be offered next spring

Central Texas College Foundation is the beneficiary of one of its own, as the campus police department donated $5,000 to endow a scholarship designed for criminal justice students.

The Central Texas College Police Department Endowed Scholarship will be awarded in the spring 2009 semester to a CTC criminal justice major.

The presentation was made to Judy Heartfield, CTC Foundation director.

The CTC Police Department raised the scholarship funds by hosting the annual haunted house and autumn festival. Since 1998, proceeds from the event have been set aside until enough money was raised to meet the endowment criteria.

By donating a minimum of $5,000, a scholarship can be established to honor, recognize and/or memorialize a person or organization of one's choice. The named honoree's life or significant accomplishments will be commemorated on an annual basis when the scholarship is presented. The endowment gift is invested and accrues interest which generates funds for future scholarship awards.

This year's haunted house and autumn carnival is Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 from 6-11 p.m. each night.
