CTC lists upcoming non-credit courses

Central Texas College (CTC) Continuing Education Department is offering the following upcoming non-credit courses.

Piano: This group class is for beginners who have little or no piano experience. It focuses on keyboard, improvisation and note reading. Class, for those age 13 to adult, will meet Tuesdays, Oct. 21 to Dec. 2, 5:30- 6:30 p.m. Class for 5- to 12-year-olds will meet Saturdays, Oct. 18 to Nov. 22, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Cost for either class is $89.

Strictly Classical (ages 12 to adult): Learn standard classical guitar techniques. Class focuses on learning how to hold the guitar, hand positions, reading music, music theory and repertoire. Class will meet Tuesdays, Oct. 21 to Nov. 25, 6- 7 p.m. Cost is $89.

Guitar (ages 7 to 12): Learn important concepts for beginning acoustic, folk and bass guitar players. The class covers tuning, note names, chords, scales and various guitar techniques such as rock, blues, R&B, classical and folk. Class will meet Mondays, Oct. 20 to Nov. 24, 6- 7 p.m. Cost is $89.

Water Aerobics (for lifelong learners, ages 50 and up): Class offers a workout with easy-to-follow exercise routines to improve cardiovascular fitness, flexibility and strength in those 50 and older. Class will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays, Oct. 21 to Dec. 4, 9- 10 a.m. Cost is $36.

Retirement Planning Today: This course takes an aggressive approach to retirement planning and includes quick, individual exercises to help one start thinking about non-financial retirement issues. Class will meet Oct. 21, 6:30- 9:30 p.m. Cost is $24.

Investment Basics -- Beyond Budgeting: Learn how to be a smart money manager. This easyto understand class includes investment topics such as cash management, tracking cash flow, basic investment terminology and concepts involving stocks, bonds and mutual funds. Class will meet Oct. 21, 6:30- 8:30 p.m. Cost is $14.

Computer Essentials (for lifelong learners): This slow-paced course is designed for beginners. Learn the basic characteristics of the computer and application software. Class will meet Mondays and Wednesdays, Oct. 21 to Nov. 12, 9- 11 a.m. Cost is $41.

PowerPoint 2003: Learn how to create professional-looking documents and presentations. Topics include using a design template, auto layouts, using clip art and embedded visuals. Class will meet Mondays and Wednesdays, Oct. 21 to Nov. 12, 1- 3 p.m. Cost is $41.

Scrapbooking: Learn how to turn photographs and memories into a beautiful scrapbook. This beginning class covers cropping, page design and journaling. Class will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays, Oct. 21- 30, 6:30- 8:30 p.m. Cost is $26.

Indoor Cycling: Participants ride stationary bikes at various levels of intensity. This low-impact class promotes cardiovascular fitness and is easy on the joints. Class will meet Fridays, Oct. 24 to Dec. 12, 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Cost is $23.
