Nelda McCormick Funeral services for Nelda Faye McCormick, 94, of Granbury, formerly of Lampasas, are Oct. 18, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel in Lampasas with Minister Reid Schaub officiating. Burial will be at Watson Cemetery.

Visitation is Oct. 17 from 7:30-9 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

Mrs. McCormick died Oct. 13 at Trinity Mission in Granbury.

She was born Nov. 4, 1913, in Bentonville in Wells County near Alice, the daughter of James Edward and Verlie Sefton Grinstead Watson.

Mrs. McCormick was reared at Rocky, later named Watsonville (named for her grandfather, J.C. Watson). She attended first grade at Redbud School on Rocky and rode a donkey or walked to school. She attended second through seventh grades in Lampasas, later moving to Arlington to live with an aunt and uncle while she attended eighth grade.

Mrs. McCormick graduated from high school in Lampasas.

She married Thomas McCormick on Oct. 6, 1934, in Burnet County.

Mrs. McCormick attended Jackson Business College and kept books for her husband's business. She also obtained her insurance license so she could sell insurance for McCormick Insurance Agency.

She also owned Ynel's, a gift shop.

Mrs. McCormick joined Central Christian Church in Lampasas in 1924. In 1992, she became a deaconess emeritus. She was very active in her church, where she sang alto in the choir, taught Sunday School and was president of the Christian Women's Fellowship.

For many years, Mrs. McCormick was a member of the General Federated Women's Club, the 36 Club where she served as president.

She also was a director of the Watson Cemetery Association until she moved to Georgia in 2004 to live with her daughter.

Survivors include daughters, Tommie Nell Hicks of Granbury and Martha Ann O'Keefe Lamond of Alpharetta, Ga.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Merle Stewart of Lampasas.

She was preceded in death by her husband; by a brother, David Watson; and a sister, Mildred Watson.

The family requested memorials be made to Watson Cemetery Association or Central Christian

Church.
