Consumers reminded to use licensed contractors
      Fall has arrived in Texas, and with the change of seasons homeowners' thoughts turn to the first cold snap and necessary furnace maintenance. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation encourages consumers to do their homework before hiring a contractor and safeguard their family by making sure the contractor is licensed.

Accident on CR 3010 sends four to hospital
      A one-vehicle accident Monday sent four Lampasas residents to Rollins Brook Community Hospital with non-incapacitating injuries. A 16-year-old male was driving a Nissan Quest mini-van with three other occupants, according to a report filed by Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Patrick Hodgkiss.

Law Enforcement Report
      Recent arrests: Oct. 15 -- Keith Oneil Scales, 23, of Lampasas for evading arrest or detention and resisting arrest or search. At press time Thursday morning, he remained in the Lampasas County Jail. Oct. 13 -- Allen Theodore Fields, 54, of Lampasas for driving while intoxicated. He was still in jail Thursday morning.

Drivers: Be aware of deer at night
      The high season for car crashes with deer is October through December. Each year, they account for more than 150 human and nearly 1.5 million deer fatalities. Experts attribute the problem to the combination of deer mating and migration habits and shortened daylight hours.

Judge gives 20-year term in drug case
      In recent 27th District Court action with Judge Joe Carroll presiding, an Early man received a 20- year sentence in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutional Division. Arlyn Levert Williams, 37, was found guilty of possession of a chemical with intent to manufacture. He was given credit for time in jail.
