Hanging on for dear life

Hornets ready for Grand Prairie
      Most football teams play only one season per calendar year, but not Lometa. The Hornets begin their second season tonight. At least, that is how they are looking at it. Lometa will play its first game since Sept. 26 tonight when it travels to face Grand Prairie Eagle Advantage Academy at 7:30 p.m.

Lometa play, steak dinner set Nov. 15
      "Dearly Departed," a comedy by David Botrell and Jessie Jones, will be presented in the Lometa School auditorium Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. Tickets for the play, to include a steak dinner to be served from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Scholarship winner
      Ty Pauly of Lometa took to reserve championship in the finewool division at the Heart of Texas Stock Show. He earned a $250 scholarship for his efforts.

ORCA to present check to Lometa
      The Office of Rural Community Affairs will present an oversized, ceremonial check to the city of Lometa, which received a grant for $488,714 from the agency's Renewable Energy Demonstration Pilot Program. The grant will enable 50 kilowatts of solar panels to be installed at the wastewater treatment plant, which is owned and operated by LCRA and serves Lometa.

Oakalla VFD fund-raiser set
      Oakalla Volunteer Fire Department's annual all-you-caneat fajita dinner is Nov. 1 from 5- 9 p.m. at the fire department. The meal will be $10 for adults and $3 for children ages 12 and under. A special raffle will be held for a .243 deer rifle and a Winchester pump shotgun.
