Debbie Carter, a member of the Highland Lakes Democratic Women, will be the speaker at the Oct. 23 meeting at Francesco Italian Restaurant in Marble Falls at 11:30 a.m.

Her topic will be "Earmarks: Wasteful Spending or Getting Your Fair Share."

"This has been the subject of many of the political speeches during this campaign, and may not be fully understood," said a HLDW spokesman. "This is of a great deal of concern for the upcoming election."
