Lutheran church sets concert
      Two for Life team Jay and Jodi Marcum, a husband and wife musical duo from Nashville, will present a family concert on Friday at 7 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church. Marcum, a former Navy band saxophonist, and his wife, an accomplished vocalist and pianist, are World Vision Artist associates.

      Lampasas High School Flames will hold its annual spaghetti dinner and silent auction Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. Tickets are available from any Flame or by contacting Tammy Ott at (254) 394-2515. Donations are being accepted.

      Parents are invited to attend open house tonight from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Lampasas High School campus to pick up student schedules and visit teachers in their classrooms. * * * LHS will be administering the PSAT on Wednesday morning to all sophomores and juniors.

Bend fund-raising event on tap
      Bend Community Center will have its annual fund-raising fish fry on Saturday at 5 p.m. The meal will include fish and all the trimmings. A cake auction and silent auction will be held with proceeds benefitting the community center's upkeep.

      Hanna Springs Intermediate PTSO recently held a T-shirt design contest for its students to help design this year's shirts. A winner was selected from each grade level, and each was presented a T-shirt. An overall winner received a gift card.

      Colorado River CattleWomen made a donation recently of ground beef to the Lampasas Mission during the August/September food drive. Along with the meat donation, the group handed out brochures on "The Skinny on Ground Beef.

Oakalla VFD fund-raiser set Nov. 1
      Oakalla Volunteer Fire Department's annual all-youcan eat fajita dinner is Nov. 1 from 5-9 p.m. at the fire department. The meal will be $10 for adults and $3 for children ages 12 and under. A special raffle will be held for a .243 deer rifle and a Winchester pump shotgun. There also will be an auction at 7 p.m. and other raffles items.

Cancer Society stresses early detection tests
      During National Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, the American Cancer Society continues to recommend mammograms for all women age 40 and older every year to help detect breast cancer early. This year alone, an estimated 182,400 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer, and an estimated 40,930 will die from the disease.
