Lampasas Force U-14 and U-12 teams win again
Winning is a family affair for the Lampasas Force's U-14 team.
Brothers Anthony and Adrian Velarde each contributed a pair of goals to keep the Force's undefeated streak intact, as the team beat the Silver Dragons 5-1 last Sunday in Round Rock.
Anthony Velarde got the squad off to a good start by stealing a pass and netting the first goal of the day less than a minute into the game.
Thirty minutes later, the Silver Dragons answered back by penetrating past Force defenders for a score.
The tie did not last long, however, as Chris Oosthuizen set up Adrian Velarde for an easy goal, and the Force took a 2-1 advantage into halftime.
In the second half, the Velarde brothers struck again, scoring a goal apiece while Oosthuizen chipped in a point as well, increasing the Force's final lead to 5-1.
The Silver Dragons had several scoring opportunities, but goalkeeper Joshua Barbero made a number of key saves to thwart their attempts.
Next up for the Force is a home match against the Lakeway Fusion Sunday at 2 p.m.
Last Saturday, the Force's U-12 team took advantage of an early goal from team captain Nick Lawson and then played some stout defense to preserve a 1-0 shutout victory over Fowler.
Just four minutes into the contest, Lawson delivered a curving shot from the left wing that slipped through the goalkeeper's grasp and into the net.
Minutes later, the Force appeared to take a two-goal lead, but an offsides infraction eliminated the goal, leaving the score 1-0.
Despite the low score, Lampasas dominated the time of possession, holding the ball for more than 80 percent of the game, according to coach Jerry Barbero.
Defenders Tristan Schroeder, Mason Morris, Drew Dekort, Ethan Cooney and Damian Velarde all contributed to the Force's victory, pushing the U-12 team's record to 3-0 against district foes and 4-1 overall.
The U-16 Force squad suffered a 4-0 setback against the Raptors.
